Ljuba Bacharova MD, DrSc, MBA, is a senior research worker in the International Laser Center CVTI, Bratislava, Slovakia, and a part-time teacher at the Medical School, Comenius University and the Slovak Medical University, both in Bratislava. She graduated from the Medical School (MD), Comenius University, Bratislava in 1971 (MD), later specialized in the internal medicine (1981) and in the medical informatics (1988). She received an MBA degree at the Business School, University of Leeds, UK in 2000.
She has been interested in research since her university time, in fact during all her professional career. Her main research interest is an evaluation of the cardiac electric field, from standard 2-lead ECG and vectorcardiography to computer modeling, 3D visualization and multimodal imaging, with a special interest in left ventricular hypertrophy.
In 1986 she defended her PhD thesis focused on the graphical presentation of the orthogonal ECG and vectorcardiography. In 2011 she received a Doctor of Sciences (DSc) degree for her innovative approach to the ECG diagnosis of left ventricular hypertrophy. Her year-lasting research in ECG diagnosis of LVH resulted in publishing the joint a ISE-ISHNE paper on the change of the diagnostic paradigm.
Ljuba Bacharova joined the International Society of Electrocardiology (ISE) in 1983, when she attended the International Congress of Electrocardiology (ICE) held in Bratislava, and participated in the organization of the meeting. Later in 1997 she organized the ICE again in Bratislava as the President of the Congress, and again in 2024 as a co-organizer. In the years 1997 - 1999 she served as the President of ISE, and later in 2005 - 2014 as the ISE Secretary.
She was a member of the Board of Directors of the International Society for Computerized Electrocardiology (2009 - 2015). In 2005 she became an Executive Editor of the Journal of Electrocardiology.
Ljuba Bacharova is an author of 144 articles (75 as the first author) in international and national scientific journals (indexed on Index Medicus PubMed), and of a number of invited readings at international and national conferences.
She enjoys working with students and motivating them for research. Since 2006, she has initiated and still organizes or co-organizes the International Research Interdisciplinary Schools. Till 2023, 31 international courses were organized in 13 countries on three continents (Europe, Asia, South America) with a total number of 450 participants from 35 countries.
Ljuba Bacharova speaks Slovak, English, Russian and German, and paints as a hobby. Several of her paintings were featured on the cover of Journal of Electrocardiology.
